The USA continues to be Scotland's top international trading partner with around 17.1 % of all our exports entering the States, worth £5.5 billion. The USA's size alone — four time zones across 50 states and vast cultural differences across regions — means it has to be treated as a series of regional markets, with difference characteristics and business practices.

This Scottish North American Business Council event, delivered with partners including SDI , RSM, Rooney Nimmo, C.A.S.E. US Tax and Financial Services, US Commercial Service, Select USA, and Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, will offer a quick, practical introduction to international trade opportunities in the USA.

On the day you'll learn more about the support available for companies like yours considering trade with America. There will be opportunities to meet Council of American States in Europe (CASE) members Virginia, Iowa, Kentucky, South Carolina ,Missouri and Pennsylvania . CASE is the official state-supported organisation in Europe, which provides initial information, answers questions and identifies professional service providers for those companies wanting to establish or expand business in the United States. Get your questions answered by an expert panel able to answer all your areas of concern, and hear from Scottish companies who have already found success across the Atlantic who'll share their experiences and top tips for you to learn from.

The day will focus on all aspects of trading with the USA including: Getting started and who to contact for tailored support, How to research your market, How to identify routes to market , Financing your trade and getting paid Legal aspects of trading in the USA, Protecting your intellectual property in the USA .
